Imperfect Subjunctive
- Use the imperfect Subjunctive to persuade someone else to do something, to express emotions, and express doubt or uncertainty.
- Depending on whether or not the main verb is in the present tense or in the preterite/imperfect tense you use either the present subjunctive or the imperfect subjunctive.
- Take the Uds./ellos/ellas form of the preterite and remove the -ron ending and add the imperfect subjunctive endings.
- Ar- ara, aras, ara, áramos, aran; Er/Ir- iera, ieras, iera, iéramos, ieran.
- Spell changing verbs, stem changing verbs nad irregular verbs have the same rules in the imperfect subjunctive.
- Ir: fueron-fue-; habler: hubieron-hubie-; pedir: pidieron-pidie-
